This is a selection of many, diverse organizations which support trans and their kin in a variety of ways. It is not intended to be 
comprehensive but rather a sampling to encourage you to surf the Internet for organizations that will fit your needs. Almost all 
of the blurbs are direct quotes of the organization’s mission statement. Many of these organizations, particularly the 
educational ones, also have a bibliography of books and other sources to continue your study.
Camp Aranu’tiq - to provide transgender and gender variant youth with a safe, fun, and unique camp experience during which 
they are able to express gender however they are comfortable and connect with others in similar situations. Camps are in
Southern New England and Southern California.
Campaign for Southern Equality - a national effort, based in the South, to assert the full humanity and equality of LGBT 
people in American life and to increase public support for LGBT rights.

Ali Forney Center - dedicated to promoting awareness of the plight of homeless LGBT youth.
American Psychological Association - Answers to your Questions About Transgender People, Gender Identity, and Gender 
COLAGE (People with a Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender or Queer parent) - a national movement of children, youth, and 
adults with one or LGBTQ parent building community and working toward social justice through youth empowerment,
leadership development, education and advocacy.

Forge - to support, educate and advocate for the rights and lives of transgender individuals and SOFFAs.

Friends of GLBT Youth - dedicated to eradicating homophobia and transphobia in order to allow all young GLBT people the 
opportunity to reach their full potential.
Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute - to increase the number of LGBT people in public office and to provide programming, 
service, and other support to help ensure their success.
Gender Spectrum - provides education, training and support to help create a gender-sensitive and inclusive environment for all 
children and teens. - a national organization focused on the needs, issues and concerns of gender variant people. It is an umbrella
organization that includes the American Education Gender Information Service (AEGIS), Gender Education and Advocacy 
FTM International - The largest and longest running educational organization focusing on services for the FTMs and their 
(GA), the Remembering Our Dead Project and Day of Remembrance.
GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) - works with news, entertainment and social media to bring culture-
changing stories of LGBT people into millions of homes and workplaces every day. 
GLSEN (The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) - strives to assure that each member of every school 
community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
GLAD (Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders) - New England’s leading legal rights organization dedicated to ending 
discrimination based on sexual orientation, HIV status and gender identity and expression.
Human Rights Campaign - America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and 
transgender equality…advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring families are treated equally under 
the law and increasing public support among all Americans through innovative advocacy, education and outreach programs.
International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE) - leading advocate in the promotion of free gender expression 
and identity, providing an excellent platform for national news.
Intersex Society of America (ISNA) - is devoted to systemic change to end shame, secrecy and unwanted genital surgeries 
It Gets Better Project - was created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential and positivity their lives 
will reach — if they just get through their teen years. It also reminds teenagers in the LBGT community that they are not alone 
— and it WILL get better. 
Metropolitan Community Churches - a global Christian church that has a specific outreach to GLBT members and friends.

National Black Justice Coalition - dedicated to empowering Black same-gender-loving, lesbian, gay, bisexual and 
transgender people. The Coalition works with communities and allies for social justice, equality and an end to racism, 
homophobia and transphobia.
National Center for Transgender Equality - a social justice organization dedicated to advancing the equality of transgender 
people through advocacy, collaboration and empowerment.

Lambda Legal - is the oldest, founded in 1973, and largest national legal organization whose mission is to safeguard and

Open and Affirming Churches - inclusive Protestant churches that welcome the full participation of LGBT people.
PFLAG (Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbian and Gays) - promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual 
and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten 
an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of 
gender and society.
TNET (PFLAG’s Transgender Network) - specifically focuses on support for transgender people and their parents, families 
and friends. It provides education on some issues unique to the transgender community, and focuses on issue advocacy to 
ensure equal rights for the transgender community at local and national levels.
TLDEF (Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund) - committed to ending discrimination based upon gender identity and 
expression and to achieving equality for transgender people through public education, test-case litigation, direct legal 
society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a 
services, community organizing and public policy efforts.
SAGA (Southern Arizona Gender Alliance) - offers support, social and discussion groups that reflect various aspects of 
TYFA (TransYouth Family Allies) - empowers children and families by partnering with educators, service providers and 
communities, to develop supportive environments in which gender may be expressed and respected.
TransActive - to provide information that will help you better understand, accept, affirm and support a gender non-conforming 
or transgender child or youth on their unique journey through life.
Transgender at Work (TAW) - provides resources for innovative employers who want to set their company employment 
policies to help their transgender employees to be at their most productive, without spending energy hiding an important part

TransKidsFamily (TKF) - an online forum for trans kids and their family to discuss issues in common.
Two Spirit National Cultural Exchange, Inc. - dedicated to the positive development of Two Spirit people and to seek to 
preserve a way of life that existed for hundreds and hundreds of years in order to rediscover and preserve the multi-tribal 
traditions of the Two Spirit community. 
Transgender Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) - dedicated to engaging in effective advocacy for transgender people in our 
of themselves and pretending to be something they are not.
Unid@s (The National Latin@ LGBT Human Rights Organization) - dedicated to creating a multi-issue approach to advocacy, 
society. The TLPI brings experts together to work on law and policy initiatives designed to advance transgender equality.
